About Phillips Theological Seminary
Who We Are
We are a community of teachers and learners seeking to be faithful
to God through disciplined, reasoned, and reflective study of scripture, religious
tradition, and human experience.
We exist primarily to serve the church's need for an educated ministry. We serve this need through offering a challenging theological education, including academic study and vocational formation.
We welcome those who are not pursuing a ministerial degree, but who want to explore and deepen their faith by taking specific courses in our curriculum.
We also welcome students from many denominations. While we are affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), our faculty and student body represent over 20 denominations.
Mission
Phillips Theological Seminary is an accredited institution of higher education, affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), whose purpose is to prepare men and women for varied Christian ministries in church and society. One single aim dominates its educational programs: to help the church make the Christian faith effective in human life and society through a competent, educated ministry.

History
Phillips Theological Seminary has been serving the church and the wider community since 1906, the year before Oklahoma became a state. During its first eight decades, the seminary was a component of Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. It was initially known as "The College of the Bible" and later as "The Graduate Seminary of Phillips University."
In 1987 the seminary was incorporated as a free-standing institution called Phillips Graduate Seminary. About that time a second campus was opened adjacent to The University of Tulsa campus. The seminary’s name was changed to Phillips Theological Seminary in 1995.
In May 1997 the Board of Trustees, after extensive study, decided to consolidate the seminary's operations by moving to a single campus in Tulsa. The seminary's new campus, at 901 North Mingo Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma opened for classes in Fall 2003.
Accreditation
Phillips Theological Seminary is accredited by a bi-national professional association and by a regional association. Both associations are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
