Prospective Students
Greetings from the Director of Recruitment
Inquiry is the first step to learning.
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, Welcome! to the Phillips Theological Seminary website. I'm pleased you've taken this step to learn about us. Some brief observations may help you get to know us.
Mission. Our mission of preparing women and men for the varied Christian ministries of church and society takes a specific form here at PTS. We believe that theological education is most effectively done through a combination of academic studies and ministerial formation. To that end we have assembled a scholarly, well-respected faculty which has a commitment to the church as well as to their academic disciplines.
Ecumenical Context. Denominational education in an ecumenical context presents opportunities to exchange ideas, explore new worship practices, and participate in broad community life experiences. With a student population representing 20 different faith groups, local pastors and church officials are on campus regularly to visit with students and faculty.
Course Schedules. Classes are arranged to meet a variety of student needs - from those attending seminary full-time to those working in church or secular employment full-time. Most classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with both day and evening offerings. The block course structure enables students to be on campus only one or two days per week. Alternatively some courses meet on selected weekends or in concentrated one-week formats. In addition some classes are held online with students and teachers coming together on campus for one or two days during the semester. Occasionally the seminary offers classes in Oklahoma City and other off-campus locations including study tours within and outside the United States.
Cost of Attendance. Financial Aid is available through the Stafford federal student loan program, through institutional grants and awards, and through denominational and church scholarships. The director of financial aid can assist in building packages from a variety of sources to support the costs of education.
Campus Visits. There are many facets to education at PTS which can best be explored by personal conversation. I invite you to visit our campus. Designated campus visit days throughout the year allow you to greet other prospective students while touring the facilities and meeting the people who make up the heart of PTS. Or, if it works better for your schedule, contact us for a visit on any day, especially when you can join us for chapel and community lunch. Evening visits are also available upon request.
Please feel free to contact us for additional information.
